patrick’s Story

Hailing from Colorado Springs, CO, Patrick was born with a warrior’s heart. He joined the Marine Corps and quickly rose through the ranks due to his fierce mentality and incomparable drive. His battle with mental health began in high school, and continued into his time in the Marine Corps.

In August of 2020, Patrick suffered a catastrophic equipment failure while climbing in the backcountry. He fell 65ft onto rock. He should not have survived. This was his meridian.

He went through numerous surgeries and spent 3 months in a wheelchair recovering. Patrick faced serious mental health challenges and developed PTSD surrounding his experience. Through the whole recovery, he was able to keep an optimistic view of his situation and continued to lean into every new challenge he faced.

In early 2021, Patrick got on a bike for the first time. The residual pain from many surgeries subsided, allowing Patrick to showcase his renewed sense of drive and endurance. Less than 6 months later, he competed in his first Warrior Games. Another 6 months and he was representing the United States at the 2022 Invictus Games. In August of 2022, Patrick competed in his second Warrior Games, taking home 4 gold medals and two silver.

PM. is the story of a young athlete who found the freedom he felt was taken from him. And on the road to recovery, found more strength than anyone thought was possible. His story is that of millions of athletes in adaptive sports.
